Goldfield & Banks’ Southern Bloom honours the rare and enchanting native flower, the Boronia. The Tasmanian Boronia only blooms during its short September ‘spring-bloom’, on Australia’s southernmost island, Bruny, off the coast of Tasmania. Brown Boronia (native to Australia) is the only Boronia species that an absolute has been extracted from – it is totally distinctive and one of the most expensive perfume materials in the world due to its rarity.
Southern Bloom is opulent, sophisticated, and luxurious. A velvety woody floral featuring glimpses of fruity greenness, it so well represents Australia’s enrapturing, powerful, rugged beauty.
Made in small batches due to the rarity of the Boronia Essence, limited quantities are available of Southern Bloom, so we snap up as many as we can.

HOW IT WEARS
Opening with juicy mandarin and the green sweetness of cassis, Southern Bloom quickly descends into its floral heart. We actually get the powder of iris predominantly at first, but that soon gives way to the boronia. The boronia sort of behaves like a yellow floral – it’s warm, almost honeyed, but still has an earthiness to it. Accentuated by jasmine and ylang ylang, the dry down of this scent reveals milky coconut and creamy sandalwood. Southern Bloom has fabulous longevity, and as a Parfum will last 8-10 hours on the skin.
Southern Bloom is a totally unique floral scent. It’s rich, velvety and ever so slightly sweet without being overbearing, because of the opening notes as well as the fresher floral accords. It is remarkable how realistic it is, and how well it captures the scent of such a beautiful native flower. The addition of coconut really rounds out the fragrance – it’s almost imperceptible – but adds an overall creamy softness to the scent.
