Today we are onto a new hyper-specific fragrance brief…perfectly timed for the first week of spring!
The request – “The smell of a cottage garden at dawn in spring where there is still some dew on the leaves, a bit green and crunchy, maybe there is a bee hive nearby and some fruit trees in the distance.”
It’s very seasonal and perfectly aligns with Jess’ taste right now so she’s here to transport you to the most magical spring morning via scent.
Chasing Scents – Rain Tea
The first fragrance that takes us to the smell of the cottage garden in spring has to be Rain Tea. This incredible fragrance by Chasing Scents evokes the green earthiness of the Australian landscape with a gorgeous mimosa (wattle) note….the absolute scent that spring is in the air! There is also a rainy, petrichor note that fits this brief perfectly as spring tends to be quite damp and rainy. But fortunately, we also have a white tea, barley and honey note that comes alive as this fragrance settles into the skin so we know that the bees are hard at work and tea is brewing and we are are set for a wonderful day.
Tulita - Sasra
Secondly, we have Sasra from Tulita. This fragrance smells like you have found yourself the most picturesque and magical place to just sit down and have a little meditate or ponder first thing in the morning. If you can imagine, the spot you’ve chosen – you’re propped up against a beautiful old apple tree. There are all of these wild herbs and wild flowers growing around you. When you smell Sasra, you really get this very fresh, sharp fruity tone with the apple and the rhubarb, but then you get all of these aromatic herbs such as mint, rosemary, clary sage. As the fragrance develops you get a little bit of geranium and some lavender, rounding out the perfect spring garden. It smells really crisp, clean and grounding.
Etat Libre d’Orange – You or Someone Like You
And lastly, we have You or Someone Like You from Etat Libre d’Orange. Now, this fragrance, I feel like it could be the morning, but it could also be dusk in the evening. And it’s almost like you have stepped outside with a cuppa, or maybe it’s the afternoon, and you’re having a cheeky champagne, this fragrance is the scent of a gorgeous spring breeze just gently touching your face, your bare shoulders. It’s still kind of chilly, but the warmth of the sun just makes you feel so alive. Etat Libre d’Orange don’t actually release the notes for You or Someone Like You however this fragrance is definitely super mint heavy. It smells like a gorgeous, freshly picked bunch of wild mint, however you also have these green notes, some citrus, sharp, crisp notes too. This fragrance has a really sophisticated and elegant creamy undertone to it that I love. I almost get a little bit of that kind of soft, smooth, sweet juiciness of a pear plus this gorgeous skin-like musk in the base as it settles making it the perfect fragrance to round out this brief!
