Los Angeles. In the city of fallen angels, fantasy rules. But they come, the dreamers, for the sunshine and the possibilities, to the land of opportunity, where hope springs eternal.
And you dreamers, with your dreams — you might flourish, you might wither, but you don’t give up. You keep coming, or you think about coming, and sometimes you stay. Because someday, someone just might be looking for you, pointing at you, wanting you. Or someone like you.
You Or Someone Like You is not the ‘scent of LA’ or ‘the smell of the Hollywood Hills captured.’ It is not one of those olfactory synecdoches. Instead, the perfumer imagined a fragrance a fictional LA woman would wear. She wears it; so presumably do thousands of other women. It represents her only in the way all such choices represent us. What it will be to you is for you to decide, obviously.
You or Someone Like You is a welcoming fragrance: neither off-putting nor strange. It is a contemporary creation built around timeless materials. The perfume invigorates the senses with its fresh, inviting appeal. One feels good wearing it.

HOW IT WEARS
You or Someone Like You opens with a burst of citrus and green herbaceousness which definitely features a plush, fresh mint accord. As the fragrance wears, it gets cleaner, with perhaps a pear note coming through that kind of reminds us of expensive hair products, before settling down to a clean musk. You or Someone Like You doesn’t change drastically throughout its wear however, staying pretty true to the opening throughout. It has incredible projection and easily lasts 6-8 hours on the skin.
LORE LOVES
You or Someone Like You is the smell of green juices drank through plastic straws, of manicured yet bohemian gardens dotted along Mulhulland Drive, of a mojito at a chic bar frequented by the elite. Simultaneously laid back but ever-so-slightly contrived, like a plain white tshirt that costs $150. It is such an enjoyable fragrance to wear – its freshness it totally uplifting and gives you the pep in your step needed to chase your dreams of stardom. Side note – it is so hard to find a fragrance with mint where the mint actually lasts, and it defintely does in You or Someone Like You. We are obsessed!
ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded by Etienne de Swardt in 2006, Etat Libre d’Orange is an ambitious, audacious perfume house. Its name meaning “Free Orange State” in French, this is a house with an emphasis on originality, audacity, authenticity and freedom of expression. Each of Etat Libre d’Orange’s offerings is uncompromisingly surprising and knows no constraints in terms of creativity nor raw materials.
A perfumer for LVMH for many years before going rogue, Etienne de Swardt founded Etat Libre d’Orange with a view to turn the commercial fragrance industry on its head. Its launch certainly made waves, not only due to the raunchy fragrance names, but for the compositions themselves.
Read any review of Etat Libre d’Orange online and you will see a wide range of opinions, from disgusted to delighted, from aroused to inspired. We are obsessed with the daring whimsy of this fragrance house and so excited to have it at Lore!
