A secret Capresi garden, discoverable only if you know the right cobblestone alleys to go down. Elaborate water features in the shape of shells, gods and goddesses are surrounded by lush greenery, the scent of the nearby Mediterranean permeating the air. The salty breeze picks up the scent of herbs, coral branches and vegetal compostions, made even more fragrant by the island sun.

The horizon is blue. Bergamot, sunny and bright, meets Rosemary. Aromatic, occasionally pungent. Salt is on the skin, crystallized. A plunge is refreshing, leaving room for what is new. Mint Leaves, green tender smoothness. Cedarwood and Guaiac, a precious forest, protect Patchouly and Musk’s incoming gifts from faraway lands. The magic of the tale is complete, all around. A’mmare is its echo.

HOW IT WEARS
A’mmare opens with a tangy burst of bergamot and the freshness of a water accord, but as it settles, the herbaceous, aromatic notes appear, accented by salt crystals. The dry down is earthy but not heavy, almost like driftwood. The lasting power on this fragrance is wonderful, about 6-8 hours.

LORE LOVES
A’mmare is one of the most unique marine scents we have ever smelt! While it is fresh, it has an almost balmy warmth to it that is just beautiful, and makes it really versatile. It’s the scent of the sea carried on a warm island breeze. Just stunning!

ABOUT THE BRAND
In 1380 on the island of Capri, the monks of Carthusian Monastery of St. Giacomo were taken by surprise when they learnt that Queen Joan of Anjou would be visiting them. Legend has it the father prior went around the island, gathering the most beautiful flowers he could find to present to the queen. The flowers were kept in water for 3 days, and just as the monks went to throw them away, they noticed a beautiful fragrance coming from the water. They went to their alchemist, who figured out how to recreate and preserve the scent, thus creating the first perfume of Capri.
Hundreds of years later, in 1948, the monks’ perfume formulas were rediscovered by the Priory of Certosa. With permission from the Pope, a chemist went about reproducing the formulas in a small laboratory, named Carthusia.
In the late 40s painter Mario Laboccetta created Carthusia’s logo – a flower siren surrounded by native Capresi blooms, symbolising the brand’s indissoluble bond with Capri.
Today, Carthusia’s fragrances are still all handmade, observing centuries old practises, ensuring the highest level of quality in their fragrances. The spirit and history of Capri is embedded in every Carthusia product, and all ingredients are derived from Capri’s environment, paying homage to the beautiful island.
