Founded by Nick Hoang in 2023, d’Annam is a fine fragrance house from Vietnam – in fact, its name means just that: “from Vietnam”. This house is so much more than that though – it’s a celebration of the many diverse cultures of Asia reflecting their rich heritages and unique points of view.
We are so excited to welcome this range to Lore Perfumery – it is unlike anything we’ve ever stocked before, and the range is HUGE, so there’s something for everyone (a couple of times over!) and lots to try.
The d’Annam range appears in 3 installments: Enchanting Vietnam, Memories of Japan, and Majestic China. There are far too many in the d’Annam range to talk about every fragrance, so we’ve picked our (current) favourite from each of the collections to introduce to you…
ENCHANTING VIETNAM
The first collection, Enchanting Vietnam, is an ode to Hoang’s upbringing in Vietnam, inspired by the sights, sounds, and, obviously, smells he connects to his home country.
Our current fave from Enchanting Vietnam is Vietnamese Coffee – mainly because grabbing a Vietnamese Iced Coffee from the Banh Mi shop across the road is a bit of a tradition for us Lore Gals! This is a photorealistic coffee fragrance, but specifically Vietnamese Coffee – which if you’ve ever had before you’d know is super strong and sweetened with thick, creamy condensed milk.
NOTES
Roasted Coffee, Condensed Milk, Dark Chocolate, Tonka Bean, Amber
MEMORIES OF JAPAN
The second collection is Memories of Japan, one of Hoang’s favourite places to visit. Working with Japanese cultural advisors, here Hoang created fragrances that reminded him of visiting Japan by featuring some of Japan’s most historically and culturally important motifs.
Arashimiya is definitely a standout in the Memories of Japan collection for us. It’s the scent of a bamboo forest; cool, green and rainy. We love a petrichor scent here at Lore, but this is an interpretation of rain we’ve never seen before, featuring the vegetal verdancy of bamboo leaves and wood.
NOTES
Bamboo Leaves, Rain, Fresh Grass, Violet, Bamboo Wood
MAJESTIC CHINA
Lastly is the Majestic China collection. This was created in collaboration with Chinese perfumers and is an ode to the enduring culture and influence of China across Asia.
Spring Festival is like an olfactory photograph of the street during the Spring Festival in China – it’s fruity, floral and a little ambery – just like when you buy candied hawthorn fruit (tanghulu) on a stick.
NOTES
Plum Blossom, Red Lanterns, Mandarin, Tanghulu (Candied Hawthorn), Jujube (Red Dates)
