It’s mid-Aquarius season and we’ve decided it’s time to start a regular zodiac-inspired segment.
So who are our Aquarians? And what should their scents be all about?
We decided that the fragrances to suit an Aquarian nature had to dance perfectly between a celestial, otherworldly, mysterious and weird world, while also be grounded in natural and familiar world. Read on to find out what we chose and why…
Lovingly referred to as the aliens of the zodiac, Aquarians are non-conventional, free-spirited and, future thinkers. This rebel star sign hates being told what to do and can loooves to break the rules!
Being represented by the Water Bearer, Aquarians are often mistaken as a water sign, but they are, in fact a fixed air sign. Intellectual and innovative, Aquarians are your go-to ideas person. With their mind in the clouds is often where they happily reside.
With a compassionate humanitarian focus, Aquarians love to be the savior and are also very future-orientated. Saving the world, one good idea at a time.
If they had a genre, it would well and truly be sci-fi. Aquarians have an offbeat sense of humour, quirky personality, and aloof nature that perpetuates the mysterious Aquarius stereotype.
STORA SKUGGAN MISTPOUFFER
Mistpouffer was an obvious choice. It encompasses the mysterious allure that we had to represent.
Inspired by a sonic boom, which is an unexplained sound that occurs over bodies of water, somewhat like a clap of thunder, but not… Scientists have tried for years to explain this phenomenon but have never found the cause. Some theories (that we know all Aquarians among us would love) are that it is a sound from aliens or a subsurface civilization.
Scent-wise, Mistpouffer gives us this wonderful ozonic note to represent the water, but not as you would expect, it’s more a mineral saltiness (no obvious aquatics here people). This briny sea salt note fuses perfectly with a hint of smoke, then a big burst of fig and pine. It becomes green, lush with a touch of sharpness that is suddenly balanced by the unexpected arrival of some delicious malt sugar. Slightly gourmand, just a little weird, perfect for an Aquarian!
ETAT LIBRE D’ORANGE THE GHOST IN THE SHELL
Our second scent had to be the futuristic icon from Etat Libre d’Orange. Opening with the scent of milky clean skin, The Ghost in the Shell appears at first to be oh-so-familiar and comforting at first, like freshly cleaned and moisturised skin.
Hints of citrus and jasmine are slightly detectable however, the fun kicks in with some salt. This gives the sense of skin under the warm sun, little sweat droplets forming. It’s clean and innocent but suddenly sensual and sweaty.
But hold on, we’re nowhere near done! It’s about to get weird up in here…we have an uber synthetic note of vinyl about to shine like space orb…and all of a sudden we are in ELDO’s futuristic world of cyborg skin. And Aquarians can rejoice in this fragrant ode to the unconventional, the world of sci fi and all things futuristic and of course, the wacky world of niche fragrance.
