I wanted to bring that grounding, meditative feeling to life, starting with the smooth, resinous warmth of Japanese hinoki wood. As it develops, you get these earthy layers of tobacco leaves, oakmoss, and a touch of smoked leather that give it a rich, complex depth. The orris and patchouli smoke add a little mystery, making it complex but still so easy to wear. HOW IT WEARS
Hinoki Fantôme kind of defies the fragrance pyramid, in that its wear ebbs and flows between the notes. It begins its journey with a puff of smoke from the smoked amber, brightened by the piquant spice of cardamom. In the heart you get the crisp green pear, underpinned by earthy oakmoss. Once it has settled, you can pick up the dry cedar and resinous hinoki, but there are still the echoes of smokiness from the beginning in the background.
LORE LOVES
We love how Hinoki Fantôme changes and evolves throughout its wear. It begins like you’ve just built and lit a fire in the depths of a Japanese forest with some mossy sticks, and slowly the fire has died down just to reveal glowing coals that are no longer smoking, and you’re left with the scent of the crackling damp undergrowth. This fragrance has the perfect amount of smoke – it’s definitely not overwhelming, just enough to add a little mystery and intrigue to your day.
