Sometimes, the most remarkable artworks happen by mistake. Blamage (meaning “disgrace” in German) is a fragrance inspired by the acceptance of failure and the rejection of perfection.
In the process of creating perfumes for project Nasomatto, there were a lot of failures – fragrances that didn’t make the cut. The Nose kept these failed perfumes aside in his studio to revisit, then one day noticed that the combination of them actually smelt wonderful – they blended together to create the most incredible aroma. A recreation of the scent his combined failures produced, Blamage is a fragrance that teaches us to accept ourselves, flaws and all.
A complex recipe, this fragrance is mysterious, sensual, slightly metallic and woody. We get a little element of white floral notes to open with, which leads into a woody, spicy and almost slightly leathery base. An incredibly unique scent rumoured to have over 200 notes!
The caps of the Blamage bottles are made out of hazelwood lacquered in white. Please note that the form and the size of the caps will differ, signifying the imperfections and uniqueness of nature.
HOW IT WEARS
Blamage, while confronting at first, is incredibly moreish! You can’t help but to go back to it constantly to see what notes appear and disappear. At first floral, then mineralic, then musky and powdery with a sensual, woody, leathery base, this scent really does have it all. It’s definitely in, or rather on, for the long haul too, as a Parfum it will last 8+ hours on the skin, and even longer on the hair and clothes!
Blamage is about embracing imperfections, and we love that. It’s risky, adventurous and totally unique. It’s honestly a hard scent to describe, something to be explored by each person on their own. Everyone needs to make their own errors in order to learn from them. If this perfume was indeed created by mistake, it’s one you’ll want to make over and over again.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Nasomatto, meaning “Crazy Nose” in Italian, is the brainchild of Alessandro Gualtieri, aka The Nose. The house was established in 2007 by Gualtieri as a desperate outburst after being restricted by the marketing regulations and trend forecasts imposed on him by the commercial multinational companies he had previously worked for.
Therefore, each Nasomatto fragrance is an uninhibited, personal, artistic expression of Gualtieri’s. The Nose doesn’t believe in the olfactory pyramids, neither does he want to reveal the ingredients he uses. He wants those who smell his fragrances to be able to interpret scent in their own way, unencumbered by preconceived notions or biases, giving them the freedom to forge their own olfactory image.
“I start making something but at a certain point it starts making choices by itself. It is the process that interests and guides me. I like the feeling that I’m losing control and I’m not the one making the choices. My involvement is to create something that is alive that will be able to say new things.
