20359 is the postcode of Sankt Pauli, the Hamburg district where 32.JULI was founded. For centuries, sailors arriving through Hamburg’s harbour, artists, musicians and night owls have shaped the neighbourhood’s unmistakable character. Known for its independent spirit, iconic nightlife and historic red-light district, Sankt Pauli is a place where stories begin. The deep red colour of 20359 is a quiet homage to that heritage. The fragrance captures the anticipation of an evening just unfolding, lifting the cocktail cherry from the evening’s first drink.

HOW IT WEARS
20359 begins with that unmistakable maraschino cherry accord, kind of plasticky or latex-y in quality. The heliotrope and tonka soften the edges of the cherry, keeping things sweet but making them a little more warm and powdery. The clove is quite forward for us in this composition, adding a spicy intrigue that blends really well with the leather and tobacco in the base, together making the fragrance feel more dark and moody. The cherry endures throughout the entire wear of 20359, but like a cherry soaked in booze, gets less sweet and more debaucherous as it wears.

We think this fragrance is a brilliant demonstration of the fact that exclusively using naturals doesn’t have to be a limitation in perfumery – 32.JULI has managed to perfectly capture that maraschino cherry latex feel using only natural ingredients! In fact, the earthy, leathery, dark edge to this fragrance is what makes so incredibly sexy and alluring. To us 20359 smells like walking into a dimly-lit, wood-panelled dive bar, ordering yourself a cocktail with a cherry in it, and sitting on leather couches smoking and drinking with your friends. Born in Hamburg, Germany, 32.JULI is the shared vision of two sisters, Juli and Maria Magdalena. One named Juli, one born on the 3rd of July, one a designer, one an architect; the brand explores their shared visual language and reinterprets it through a new medium – fragrance.

32.JULI dares us to imagine a day that doesn’t exist – the 32nd of July. It would be an extension of reality, a materialisation of the intangible, a rearranging of time and possibility. This is what the brand aims to do with their creations – alchemise fragrance from the abstract of the atmosphere.
