Our Sales & Marketing Coordinator, Laura, just got back from five weeks in Europe (we missed her!).
Obviously, Melbourne winter isn’t the vibe compared to Euro Summer, so in pursuit of re-living her holiday, she’s picked out some fragrances that remind her of her trip.
GREECE – MAINLAND + ISLANDS
“My main olfactory memory of Greece is of the beautiful blooming jasmine that was absolutely everywhere on the mainland and the islands. It was this particular variety of star jasmine that was super heady, honeyed and green. I went around the store trying to scent match it and the closest it gets for me is The Fox in the Flowerbed by Imaginary Authors.”
NOTES
Jasmine, Tulips, Frankincense, Wildflower Honey, Pink Peppercorns, Silver Thistle, Alpine Air
GREECE – ISLAND OF CRETE
“Crete was one of my favourite places to visit – incredibly old historical sites, ancient ruins + some of the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life. I picked Silphium to remind me of Crete as it’s inspired by a herb the Ancient Romans and Greeks loved so much they harvested it to extinction. It contains cinnamon and clove which you see a lot of in Cretan cooking, and then of course the ancient resins of frankincense and myrrh that give me the same goosebumpy feeling I get when I’m visiting somewhere thousands of years old.”
NOTES
Top: Silphium Accord, Cistus
Middle: Cinnamon, Tobacco, Black Pepper, Ginger, Geranium, Clove
Base: Frankincense, Myrrh, Cedarwood, Leather
ITALY – ROME
“One of the most interesting places I went in Italy was to the Bone Chapel in the Rome Capuchin Catacombs. Spooky yes, but also so beautiful – basically they’re bones arranged in this kind of baroque, grotto style. Ektoplasma is the fragrance that reminds me the most of there, because when you’re inside, the air feels heavier, you kind of feel like there are cobwebs on you, and Ektoplasma is this wispy, enigmatic musk that gives me a similar feeling.”
NOTES
FIRST ENCOUNTER: Vapour. Juniper vapour and cold air.
HEART: Lactonic Veil. A translucent veil of pale florals and ghostwood.
RESIDUAL HAUNTING: Skin. Ambergris, dust and skin musk. Like flesh remembered, strange and luminous.
ITALY – NAPLES + CAPRI
“When I was in Italy I was lucky enough to be able to visit Capri while staying in Naples, and so got to go to the Carthusia flagship store! From them I’ve picked Ligea la Sirena, as when I was in Naples I learnt about the mythological founder of the city, Parthenope, who is also a siren. This fragrance has a bit of a vintage feel about it, but it’s strong, ambery, spicy and tobacco-y, and so I feel it really embodies the history, chaos, culture and vibrance of Naples.”
NOTES
Top: Incense, Tangerine, Lemon, Orange, Bergamot, Lavender
Middle: Patchouli, Carnation Cloves, Geranium, Citronella, Oppopanox
Base: Musk, Tobacco Flowers, Amber, Benzoin
