1472 – LA DIVINA COMMEDIA

In 1472, one of the most influential and beautiful works of medieval poetry was published – Dante’s la Divina Commedia. The work was divided into three – Paradiso (Heaven), Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Inferno (Hell). Throughout, themes of good and evil, sin and virtue, faith and faithfulness, life and death are explored. These are also the themes explored (but this time olfactorily) in 1472.

Fine indeed is the line between heaven and hell, between light and shadow, virtue and sin. One extra bite can turn a gourmet into a glutton, just as a tiny spark of desire can throw the chastest soul into the nets of lust. Playing on this slippery slope, 1472 juxtaposes radiant, solar notes and pure florals with spices, resins and booze.

This is the fragrance of unquenched desires that morph into wild, exhilarating passion; the scent of love teetering on the brink of addiction, of elegance on the brink of vanity, of those terrestrial sparks of joy that, for the span of a just a second can give a glimpse of what Eternity, whether good or evil, feels like…

NOTES
Top: Artemisia, Ylang-Ylang, Solar Accord
Middle: Jasmine, Cinnamon, Frankincense
Base: Amber, Rum Absolute, Benzoin

HOW IT WEARS
This fragrance starts off warm and bright, the yellow floral ylang ylang blending perfectly with white floral jasmine, illuminated by a solar accord. The bitter greenness of the artemisia then beckons in the sharper, spicier notes of cinnamon and frankincense, before the fragrance descends into its deep, dark, rich base. Amber, rum, and resinous benzoin create an intoxicating concoction that lasts on the skin incredibly well, giving you 6-8 hours of wear at least.

LORE LOVES
We love the concept behind 1472, and how well the fragrance actually reflects it – sometimes the story behind a scent can seem a little abstract compared to the notes, but in this case, you can connect the two easily. Here the fragrance pyramid (Top, Middle, Base) mimics Dante’s three texts (Heaven, Purgatory, Hell). The pure florals and solar accord in the opening are heaven, the green, spicy notes in the middle are purgatory, and the rich, resinous, boozy notes in the base are hell. Story aside, this fragrance is a truly unique floral fragrance – fresh and a little sweet, yet smoky and deep at the same time. It takes you on a totally compelling journey throughout its wear… needless to say we can’t get enough of it!

ABOUT THE BRAND
From the incredible imagination of Gerald Ghislain, Histoires de Parfums is an olfactive library telling stories of famous characters, writers, poets and years throughout history. With this perfume library, Gerald Ghislain wanted to evoke stories through scent just as books are written with emotions. Each fragrance brings a story to life and each story is to be read on the skin.
