The door has closed and already the room has changed shape. A moment ago it was full – now it is only air, and the smell of memory rising off the sheets like incense. Some animal part of you is still lit up – still tasting the champagne gone flat, the cherry-dark warmth and cinnamon heat that rose when they were near.

The elation has nowhere to go now and it curls into something sacred and aching – frankincense in an empty room, devotion with no one left to receive it. The silence is loud. The cushion still holds their shape. Outside, the cypress sway swallowing the sound of fading footsteps, and the stillness of the room closes over like a held breath.

So you stay. Full and hollow at once. Staring at the empty bottle, the cherry pits, the warm hollow in the cotton — already counting, without meaning to, the hours until you might feel this again.

HOW IT WEARS
In our opinion, Mammal doesn’t really behave according to the fragrance pyramid, it does its own reckless thing, ebbing and flowing between notes. It opens with the dry sharpness of juniper, vetiver and that sparkling champagne accord. As it wears, it begins to gather heat – think warm cotton sheets, sweet cinnamon and balsamic frankincense, which finally beckon in the cherry. Somehow, the cherry appears as if out of nowhere, sweet, juicy and rich. The cherry then falls back again, leaving you with the whispers of spice and wood. A sensual and surprising wear!

LORE LOVES
When we heard Mammal was going to be a cherry scent, we knew to expect the unexpected from Vararoha. Mammal is like a fickle lover that love bombs and then pulls away, making it all the more addictive and tempting. The cherry teasingly appears and disappears, depending on the wearer. On some people it’s very prominent and on others it’s a little harder to detect. A perfect scent to wear on a date night or perhaps a sneaky link… if you know what we mean.
