The house’s approach in creating the range: to increase parfum concentration, increase the dose of the central main ingredient in each fragrance, and, excitingly, add a new guest ingredient to each fragrance. The Extraits are not just the original fragrances but stronger, they’re elevated in every way.

Main ingredient: Vanilla Absolute Fair for Life Madagascar
Guest ingredient: Immortelle Absolute Croatia
Creative approach: To create Vanilla Powder Extrait, Founder and Perfumer Aurélien Guichard has enriched the original Eau de Parfum with guest ingredient Tonka Bean Absolute Venezuela. Combined with a higher perfume concentration and an even higher dosage of vanilla absolute, the tonka bean is used as a natural powder ingredient to bring a voluptuous facet and intensify the addictive character.

HOW IT WEARS
Like the original Vanilla Powder, the Extrait opens fluffy, but a little more warmly and richly due to the tonka bean, the coconut still there but more in the background. As it develops, the pure vanilla intensifies, revealing all its facets. The dry down is where you pick up more of the tonka and the Palo Santo, which are like the vanilla’s backup singers in this scent – not too strong, amplifying the complexity of the vanilla without detracting from it. The base of white musk is also less prominent than the original – this scent is more sensual, bordering on boozy, rendering its dry-down completely addictive. Vanilla Powder, being an Extrait, has incredible longevity and scent throw, and will last on your skin for 10 hours or more!

LORE LOVES
The addition of tonka bean in this fragrance really mellows the composition out – it’s warmer, more powdery, and totally enveloping. If you love Vanilla Powder EDP you’ll love this, but if the original was a bit too much for you, we still encourage you to try this fragrance since the musk and coconut have been dialled down a bit. It’s decadent, luxe, and really takes vanilla to the next level.

ABOUT THE BRAND
Debuted in 2019, Matiere Premiere (or “Raw Materials” in French) is the work of renowned nose and master perfumer, Aurélien Guichard.
The core objective of the Matiere Premiere range is to put a spotlight on some of the most precious fragrance materials from around the world, and to hero the beauty and elegance of a single note fragrance.
A 7th generation perfumer born in Grasse (arguably the perfume capital of the world), Aurélien Guichard has a passion for fragrance running through his veins. He has been the nose behind nearly one hundred fragrances and has worked with brands such as Givenchy, Narcisco Rodriguez, Gucci and Commes de Garcons.
Guichard is also the owner of an organic farm where he produces Rose Centifolia and Tuberose, some of which is used in the Matiere Premiere line, making it one of the only brands in the world to own and produce some of the raw materials used in their fragrances.
