It is well and truly candle weather season as of now, so we thought we’d mix up our Fragrance Friday with a home fragrance this week. The way we scent our space can have such a huge impact on the way we feel, it is not one to be underestimated. Whether you want soft, warm and cosy vibes, something sensual and seductive or (in Jess’ case) a candle scent that brings the outdoors inside.
WHY WE LOVE BOY SMELLS
We love the entire Boy Smells collection so much, it is full of unique blends, quirky names and of course, the most important part – fabulous scents. Boy Smells is a queer owned fragrance house based in LA. A range that first made it appearance at Lore in 2018, and has now found its way back to our perfumery shelves, we love the ethos behind this brand – “Bold, boundary-breaking, and beautifully in-between. We are rooted in genderfulness – not as a passing trend, but as a constant way of being.”
Boy Smells’ first collaboration with country music artist Kasey Musgraves, Slow Burn was a runaway success and has become an iconic, cult classic in their collection. This first foray into a collaboration birthed a scent that celebrated slowing down to experience and enjoy the moment you are in.

Just as poetic, their second collaboration with Kasey Musgrave is Deeper Well, and indeed the focus of our fragrance friday edition today, and yes, the focus of Jess’ current scent obsession.
Deeper Well came out to coincide with Kasey’s album of the same name and Boy Smells actually scented the vinyl sleeves with the scent of the candle – which is SO cool.
Kasey Musgraves describes it as “It’s airy but grounded. Sky and dirt. Foreign but home. The divine feminine. The peaceful masculine. An examination of what you make room for. What fills your soul. A hug from someone you’ve missed. It’s the growing roots in your garden; a symbol of your ruthless reaching for something better. DEEPER WELL
The fragrance smells so incredibly magical – as Jess says, it’s like the scent of a magical forest on a cold, crisp yet sunny winter day.
The scent starts with mystical tincture like notes – the heat from saffron, the cooler aromatic tones fo eucalyptus, clary sage and lavender with the addition of juicy, sweet (and a little tart) raspberry which creates that ethereal sparkle to the fragrance. As the scent settles, the vegetal notes of mushroom and beetroot come alive and create a damp, forest floor feel, that is gently cocooned in softwoods and resins. This is a candle that fills a space easily without overpowering. Perfectly nuanced and balanced, like nature itself.
