Introducing Rose Magnitude: the newest addition to the Botanical Series by Goldfield & Banks!
We couldn’t be more excited to welcome in this new addition to the Goldfield & Banks collection, and a lot of the reason for that is because it’s completely unlike anything the brand has done before.
AN AUSTRALIAN ROSE?
As you may know, Goldfield & Banks is one of Australia’s first luxury, niche fragrance houses. Conceptually, their approach is to shine a spotlight on Australian botanicals and the landscapes they grow in, to celebrate the immense natural beauty and variety this country has to offer.
So when Dimitri, the founder of Goldfield & Banks (and friend of Lore!) was creating Rose Magnitude, he posed himself a question. How does one create a rose fragrance (a plant not native to this country) but still make it feel like it has its roots in Australian soil, connecting it to our beautiful scenery?
The answer is twofold: firstly, the topographical inspiration for this fragrance was the pink salt lakes of south Australia. Dimitri wanted to use his perfumer’s palette to communicate the colours and the textures of these lakes via scent – rugged, hardy but also startlingly beautiful.
Secondly, the rose used in this fragrance is sourced from a Victorian farm. It is the perfumer’s preferred variety of rose (Damask rose) which is prized for their intense fragrance. But, the context in which they have been grown is uniquely Australian. They have to endure conditions that don’t exist in most of the other places they’re grown; they’re exposed to extreme heat, flooding, wind, etc.
A WILD ROSE WITH AN UNTAMEABLE ELEGANCE
What resulted from this evocative inspiration is an earthy, dirty rose fragrance; a rose that feels elemental, shaped by the extreme conditions in which it’s grown. It’s a rose that has lived – not a fragile, precious rose.
This feeling is achieved by the notes Dimitri, and the nose behind Rose Magnitude, Clément Marx, chose to surround the rose with. There are spices, resins, and other earthy, unexpected florals that work together to make this fragrance truly compelling. It’s creamy yet airy, spicy yet tender. A fragrance of contrasts, intimate yet diffusive, soft yet powerful, shaped by earth, wind, and magnitude.
NOTES
Fresh Raspberry, Cumin Egypt, Orris Butter Morocco ABS, Buckwheat, Damask Rose, Violet, Geranium, Orange, Ginger, Black Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Amyris, Papyrus India.
Being part of the Botanical Series, Rose Magnitude has a slightly higher concentration of 26% parfum oil to alcohol. This means it gives you hours of wear – just like the rose inside it, this fragrance can withstand the harshest of conditions.
To us, Rose Magnitude is almost like a confit rose, distilled down to the rose’s best bits – its spicy, sweet, and jammy qualities. However, this fragrance isn’t “juicy”, it’s more marshmallow-y – plush, sweet and fluffy with a real earthy depth to it. A resilient rose that despite its extreme surroundings blooms with fabulous magnitude.
