There is eerie silence after the Harvest. From the small square window we await the autumnal shift. Dusting across fields of Hare-eared crowns, we pray the rare roots make it through the hoar.
Trimerous is a funny wee thing. A triptych of veils shading the finest facets of prized orris root.
Quivering around the most exquisite Florentine Orris Butter, Trimerous presents undulating olfactory movements, displaying singular facets of the revered root in a landscape of dewy, verglas and silvered woods.
Trimerous does not explore every kaleidoscopic nuance of the noble root, instead honouring but three slivers often overlooked. Trimerous highlights the forgotten, muted and the discarded; effervescent, buttery and exalting.
Trimerous is as much an attempt to capture a mood and a process as it is to showcase the aromatic splendour of the Iris, an inherently faultless raw material.
A ballad to the devoted hand, soiled, aged yet resiliently tending to rhizome.

HOW IT WEARS
For us, Trimerous opens bright, citrusy and crisp, its combination of pink pepper, bergamot, nectarine and juniper creating a dewy and wet effect like you’ve just pulled an iris plant out of the ground on a really cold morning. As it wears, it becomes greener and more herbaceous – you pick up the subtle presence of wild thyme, aniseed-sweet cicely and centaury, before the composition descends into its root-y and waxy heart. Then, the soft, vegetal sweetness of angelica root makes way for the star of the show – orris butter. Here the orris is multifaceted and hyper realistic; it’s green, rich, buttery, powdery, and slightly floral (like violet). The base notes of musk, suede, ambergris and resins work mostly to orris butter, helping Trimerous to become one with the skin.
LORE LOVES
This is a big call, but we truly think Trimerous is one of the best iris fragrances ever created. There… we’ve said it! Iris is one of those foundational perfumery ingredients that has been used in every way imaginable, and there are countless beautiful iris perfumes on the market. And yet here, it’s presented with such care, such tenderness and such authenticity that it never fails to produce an emotional response in those who smell it. Orris butter, extracted from the roots or rhizomes of the iris, is one of (if not the most) expensive perfumery ingredients money can buy, as it requires an incredible amount of labour and time to produce. The iris has to be grown, rhizomes harvested, processed, aged and refined, and that’s before it even makes it into the perfumer’s palette. Trimerous is a fragrance that to us, honours that process, particularly the part that relates to the growing and harvesting of the plant. Euan McCall (Jorum founder and perfumer) has spoken about how his grandparents were avid horticulturalists who were obsessed with plants, always with their hands in the soil, and how foundational that was for his relationship with natural materials and his olfactory sense. You can really feel that in Trimerous, a true iris with its roots in the soil.
