The kelpie haunts a lochside sauna, hissing out a steamed-wood and pink-edged sour lotus haze.

Inspired by Loch an Dùin, Uist. An ancient system of wetlands formed by nature thousands of years ago, where you will find Bronze age archaeology and breathtaking views.

HOW IT WEARS
Beginning with the tart, zingy, vegetal rhubarb, which is amplified by sour grapefruit, earthy beetroot and the bright spices of coriander seed and pink pepper, as Pony Boy begins to settle on the skin it gets slowly becomes jammier. Fig and raspberry leaf add a subtle sweetness, complimented by the honeyed champaca and the fresh, almost aquatic feeling lotus. As it dries down, it becomes more earthy and vegetal, the ambrette seed adding a sheer, musk-like texture, underpinned by crisp, woody cedar.

LORE LOVES
Pony Boy begins almost as a rhubarb soliflore, then unfolds into something else entirely. We think it can best be described as a fruity floral sprayed inside a sauna built entirely from cedarwood. It’s vibrant and energising, but the cedar balances that energy by adding a sense of earthy groundedness. Playful and mischievous, but still with its roots in the earth, in true Jorum style.

Founded in 2019, Jorum Studio is an independent, perfumer-led fragrance house based in Edinburgh. Led by Scottish nose Euan McCall, the house is all about celebrating the art of perfumery with an approach that prioritises originality, craftsmanship and fearless creativity.

Every Jorum fragrance is conceived, formulated, manufactured, macerated, bottled and finished entirely in-house, giving the studio complete creative freedom and an uncompromising approach to quality. This is no accident – Jorum actually started in 2010 as Jorum Laboratories, a manufacturer of perfume oils for other fragrance houses and clients.

One of our favourite things about Jorum as a house is their incorporation of notes you may never have seen or heard of before, some of which are synthesised, some of which are natural – something they have the power to create and use as producers of fragrance oils themselves. Each one you come across challenges you to expand your olfactory palate, use your imagination and think more laterally about fragrance, which we feel is what really sets them apart as a brand.

Inspiration for the Jorum fragrances come from everywhere – from Scottish folklore to nature, from technical quality to personal memory. As a house they don’t tie themselves to any singular defining concept, rather they focus on creating fragrances that feel authentic in their uniqueness, asking the wearer to bring their own interpretations to the table.
