Take a late-night motorcycle ride through a lush, dense pine forest with Poltergeist – a fragrance inspired by the physical energy of spirits themselves. A limited re-release of one of Heretic’s first original creations, Poltergeist is back but only in very limited quantities!
On Poltergeist, Heretic founder Douglas Little said: “I have intensely fragrant memories from my time in the pacific northwest. The air heavy with the smoke of blazing burn piles filled with scorched leaves and timber. Long walks through the woods permeated by the unmistakable perfume of moss, mushrooms, pine needles and leaves emanating from the forest floor. I longed for a fragrance that married these two distinct olfactory experiences: green and smoke. Unable to find what I was looking for, I created Poltergeist and named it after my favourite elusive spirit — a supernatural being that makes its presence known through physical disturbances or loud noises. Inspired by that fearless energy, this “noisy” fragrance features intense green scents paired with a deep, haunting smokiness that lingers on the skin“.
This perfume is part smoke, part green, and all wild magic. A blend of intensely sexy galbanum, rock rose and patchouli paired with scorched birch tar and Artemisia Absinthium, also known as wormwood, a key ingredient in absinthe. Don’t worry if you start chasing the green fairy, it’s a known side effect of this intoxicating mix.

HOW IT WEARS
Poltergeist starts with a bang, like a smoky apparition. The sharpness of pine, juniper and hinoki infuse with the smoke of frankincense, announcing the fragrance’s arrival. As it wears, the bright citrus of neroli beckons in the greener notes of galbanum, wormwood and patchouli. The dry down reveals the richer resins – the labdanum and birch tar, which are accented by the sweet smoulder of Palo Santo. This fragrance takes you on a journey throughout its wear, oscillating between super smoky and super green for 6-8 hours on the skin.

If you’re a nature lover, you can’t go past Poltergeist. It’s the scent of camping in a secluded forest, surrounded by huge pine trees and damp undergrowth. A campfire rages, its smoke permeating the green forest air. You huddle around and tell ghost stories, then later back in the tents, the previously innocuous sounds of the forest seem a little spookier…

Not a safe blind buy. Whilst the notes are intriguing and I do like my Smokey smells, this initially smells like cured meat and then dries down to ash, it’s like smelling a cigarette ash tray.
