HOW IT WEARS
Opening with a bouquet of flowers and herbs, at first smell you may be led to believe that Mannish Boy is a pretty simple fragrance. Once it’s been on the skin for a few minutes however, it begins to reveal its truth. The sweet, heady odour of mothballs comes out in the heart, which transports you to somewhere in the past. There you find the resins of frankincense and oud, made sharper and more pronounced by juniper. The dry down is soft, powdery and resinous, with only the echoes of the opening notes in the background.
LORE LOVES
Mannish Boy is one of Vararoha’s more cinematic fragrances, it really tells a story. We like to think of this story being told backwards through the wear – the opening notes are the present tense, fresh and optimistic. The heart notes represent leaving the past behind, packing up old boxes and mothball-scented clothes, opening dusty curtains. The base notes are the past, represented by austere, churchy resins. We can safely say we have never come across a fragrance with a mothball accord before, but here it is surprisingly wearable, and is part of the reason we love it!
