Cuoium: ‘un cuore di cuoioa’, which means a heart of leather in Italian. An exploration into leather.
Born out of the willpower to trace the ancestry and to preserve it well. Cuoium is an embodiment of love and respect for natural materials. A manifestation of the legacy of leather, an essence that becomes an alchemical armor. A vision of a universe that flourishes in harmony and worships caretaking to secure longevity. The fragrance is about treasuring the origins and preserving them for the future, contemporary paganism.
Cuoium floats in a glass flask with a rusted metal cap with an original inlaid logo made from vegetable tanned leather. Labeled by ‘Savile row tweed paper’ with a very fine herringbone structure, the fragrance comes with a removable and reusable vegetable leather cover.
HOW IT WEARS
Cuoim opens with a distinctive Leather note (almost reminiscent of Allessandro’s previous fragrance from Nasomatto – Nudiflorum). The leather is bright yet also rich, with a deep and creamy smoothness. Like running your hands over soft, well-worn leather while taking in the fresh air. Then, the smoky notes and the resinous warmth begin to escape the scent and fuse with the leather creating a sweet smoky tone, giving the leather a burnt tinge. As with all Orto Parisis, this fragrance is strong with excellent silage. Lasting power is 8 hours and beyond!
This fragrance is a perfect love child of Terroni with its smoky warmth, mixed with Stercus and its animalic, creamy leathery-ness that is ultimately at the core (and the inspiration) of this fragrance. 2 of our favourite scents – how could we not love this harmonious masterpiece! It’s like taking gold and making it even better. The animalic dirtiness in the undertones of this scent transport you to another time, think hundreds of years ago, people living on the land working with fire and leather to keep warm and essentially to survive. There is an earthy, rustic feel to Cuoium, that in true Orto Parisi fashion is compelling whilst also challenging.
ABOUT THE BRAND
“The parts of the body that carry more smell are those where more soul is collected. The strong smells have become unpleasant to us, because the excess of soul is intolerable to the extent that our innate animalism is repressed and breaking from civilization. This project is my garden I have planted, fertilized, cultivated, and harvested. Orto Parisi states that our body is experienced like a garden, and its smells are a true mirror of our soul.” The Nose, Alessandro Gualtieri. The perfume collection inspired by bodily scents, Alessandro takes a no holds approach to fragrance. He is unapologetic in his challenging fragrance line –he creates an experience with his fragrances. The Orto Parisi collection has an animalic, undeniably dirty take on scent that is at the same time alluring and hard to resist. Love it or hate it, Orto Parisi makes an impact and challenges the status quo of the fragrance world.
