A golden veil of gossamer-light. In Boswellia Scotia, Royal Green Hojari Frankincense is soothed by fir balsam and black hemlock. Boswellia Scotia is incense reimagined; translucent, atmospheric and quietly magnetic.

HOW IT WEARS
As soon as you spritz it, Boswellia Scotia delivers on the frankincense. Here it appears pure and true – after all, there are three different types in this fragrance, including the incredibly high-quality Royal Green Hojari Frankincense from Oman. It’s bright, balsamic, slightly astringent, warm, sweet and a little spicy. Once the fragrance begins to settle, you begin to pick up the other notes that serve both to illuminate and ground the frankincense. Pink pepper adds a sparkly luminosity to the brighter facets of the incense, saffron adds to its gooey warmth, fir to its sharp spiciness. Hemlock grounds with its mossy balsam, as too do cypriol and patchouli with their earthy sweetness. Boswellia Scotia is one for the frankincense snobs, for sure.

LORE LOVES
Boswellia Scotia is a bit of a play-on-words. The frankincense used here comes from the Boswellia sacra tree, but this fragrance imagines a frankincense from Scotland (scotia) instead. This is a frankincense against the backdrop of a Scottish forest, exploring their overlapping olfactory facets. It’s a fresh and invigorating scent in some respects but still has that sense of warming, mystical serenity that incense imparts. One of the truest frankincense fragrances we’ve ever encountered.

Founded in 2019, Jorum Studio is an independent, perfumer-led fragrance house based in Edinburgh. Led by Scottish nose Euan McCall, the house is all about celebrating the art of perfumery with an approach that prioritises originality, craftsmanship and fearless creativity.

Every Jorum fragrance is conceived, formulated, manufactured, macerated, bottled and finished entirely in-house, giving the studio complete creative freedom and an uncompromising approach to quality. This is no accident – Jorum actually started in 2010 as Jorum Laboratories, a manufacturer of perfume oils for other fragrance houses and clients.

One of our favourite things about Jorum as a house is their incorporation of notes you may never have seen or heard of before, some of which are synthesised, some of which are natural – something they have the power to create and use as producers of fragrance oils themselves. Each one you come across challenges you to expand your olfactory palate, use your imagination and think more laterally about fragrance, which we feel is what really sets them apart as a brand.

Inspiration for the Jorum fragrances come from everywhere – from Scottish folklore to nature, from technical quality to personal memory. As a house they don’t tie themselves to any singular defining concept, rather they focus on creating fragrances that feel authentic in their uniqueness, asking the wearer to bring their own interpretations to the table.
