HOW IT WEARS
The first spritz of Best in Show is like biting into a dessert garnished with glazed sugar and nutty praline, made lighter and fluffier by musky jasmine and fresh muguet. It’s not long though before the fragrance gets richer and creamier – the vanilla custard cream (the kind where you can see specks of real vanilla caviar swirled through it), tonka and rose work together to enhance those top notes, whilst also adding a sensual balsamic yet creamy warmth to the composition. The bast notes of musk, patchouli and vetiver act as the perfect counterbalance to some of the sweeter top notes, meaning the fragrance feels perfectly balanced and never too sweet. As it dries down, it turns muskier, melting into the skin in a way that will make whoever smells you want to gnaw off your arm!
LORE LOVES
Best in Show is Ficifolia’s first gourmand, and they really came out of the gate swinging with this one! This is the kind of vanilla fragrance that will make everyone happy – whether they’re a gourmand enthusiast or not. The vanilla in here is warm, deep and complex; making for a fragrance that feels sophisticated and interesting but still fun and flirtatious. With its extrait concentration, it goes on a real journey on the skin skin – starting sweet and sugary, turning warm and balsamic, and then eventually settling musky and creamy. As vanillas go, we think this one really takes the cake!Â
ABOUT THE BRAND
Ficifolia Fragrances was conceptualised in the Melbourne lockdowns during the Covid pandemic of 2020. Founder, Sophie Marcoux, struggled with the loss of face-to-face time with friends, family and Melbourne culture. During her pre-covid travels, Sophie would buy herself a perfume in whatever country she was in to as a scent souvenir. Inspired by the connection between scent and memory (plus a hint of desperation for some outside time during lockdown), Sophie began developing scents that reflected her life in Melbourne. If she couldn’t actually be out with her friends sipping vino at Marion, she wanted to smell like it.
Ficifolia aims to harness the memory-igniting power of fragrance, dreaming up signature scents worthy of a spot on your vanity. Potency is served in smell and storytelling, with each bottle ‘reverse-engineering’ a moment, time or place gone by in Australian cities. Each bottle pays homage to niche local experiences: first came a trilogy capsule celebrating distinctly ‘Melbourne’ vibes in 2023, and in 2024 a suite of Sydney-centric scents followed.
Proudly Australian-owned and produced, Ficifolia Fragrances are vegan and cruelty free, using a combination of natural and synthetic ingredients. All Ficifolia Fragrances are an Extrait de Parfum with 25% concentration.
