“Horn OK Please” – if you’re traveling on the roads of India, you will see these words – painted in bold, colourful graphics – behind almost every truck and maybe also some autorickshaws. Purvi remembers her husband encouraging her to drive on Indian highways – ‘It’s simple. Find the right opportunity, honk to alert the overloaded truck driver, and accelerate to overtake.’

Just like life, isn’t it? Right opportunity, right noise, and propel forward. It does take some courage, though. And then there are those brave enough to create paths where none existed. This fragrance is for the people who speak up, people who don’t stay stuck, but take initiative -forging the path to a more harmonious world.

HOW IT WEARS
Horn Ok Please takes a real journey on the skin – it begins with a boozy blast of rum, clove and cinnamon, before quickly revealing its creamy, heady, floral heart notes. Tea-like jasmine sambac and intoxicating tuberose bloom there, before the sandalwood note comes to the fore. Rich, smooth, creamy and buttery, the sandalwood is probably the most prominent note for us in this fragrance, underpinned by styrax. The styrax is balsamic, dark and a little leathery, subtly reminiscent of leather jackets and screeching tires, fitting perfectly with the theme, we think.

LORE LOVES
Spicy, warm and milky – but never heavy – Horn Ok Please is such a beautiful take on a sandalwood fragrance. The clove and florals for us have a brighter, fresher quality which add vibrance and energy to the fragrance, which is otherwise more smooth and enveloping. The blend is so delicate and refined, while still feeling unique and interesting. Note: PEOSYM chose to use a high-quality synthetic Sandalwood substitute in order to honour the current state of Sandalwood forests in India, which are currently being healed and revived.

PEOSYM began in Sydney in 2022 as the brainchild of Purvi Joshi. A modern Australian house built on contemporary Indian memory, each PEOSYM fragrance is an exploration of an inner world. They take inspiration from everyday life – the chaos, tenderness, humour, pain, and resilience that most of us feel deeply, but don’t actually speak aloud often. The kind of moments that are quietly beautiful, yet rarely described as such, even though they shape us in lasting ways, all explored via the medium of perfumery.

As a person of Indian heritage, Purvi is deeply conscious of not treating her culture as a trope. Through her fragrances, she draws inspiration from India in a deeply personal way, acknowledging nuance and paradoxicality instead of boxing it into a singular narrative to make it more easily digestible.

Combining those abstract concepts of emotional experiences with cultural nuance, PEOSYM works alongside master perfumers to craft their fragrances, treating the dry down as the heart of the structure rather than its end. Layer by layer, each scent is built as an environment ready to enter and find your own connection to.
