Dedicated to the goddess in whose honour Emperor Tiberius built one of the most important imperial villas in Capri, “Io” is a dynamic and decisive fragrance. Both sophisticated and modern, Io Capri combines the sweet tones of a wild fig tree with the cheerful, stimulating scent of tea leaves, plus of course a subtle touch of a sea breeze coming through. Io Capri refreshes the senses as it captures the rugged beauty of untouched nature along the coastline of Capri with its aromatic fragrant blend.

HOW IT WEARS
Io Capri is an Eau de Parfum that should give you a good 6 – 8 hours worth of wear on the skin. Its aromatic opening of white florals and wildflowers majestically mingled with delightful notes of mint, lemongrass, citrus and tobacco flower will thrill and delight as the stand out notes here, even after the dry down has revealed the slight hint of coconut in the base (which would be understandable given its namesake is an island) but is most likely the delicate combination of fig, star anise and tea.

LORE LOVES
Just as it’s name suggests, we love how Io Capri effortlessly combines its complex notes to create a sense of wellbeing, inner peace and tranquility. Easy, breezy days in the sun, where tangible delights of fig, apple blossom, seaweed and wildflowers abound as if you could actually reach out and touch them. Soothing, uplifting and bright, like white light. The scent of spring and pure delight.

ABOUT THE BRAND
In 1380 on the island of Capri, the monks of Carthusian Monastery of St. Giacomo were taken by surprise when they learnt that Queen Joan of Anjou would be visiting them. Legend has it the father prior went around the island, gathering the most beautiful flowers he could find to present to the queen. The flowers were kept in water for 3 days, and just as the monks went to throw them away, they noticed a beautiful fragrance coming from the water. They went to their alchemist, who figured out how to recreate and preserve the scent, thus creating the first perfume of Capri.
Hundreds of years later, in 1948, the monks’ perfume formulas were rediscovered by the Priory of Certosa. With permission from the Pope, a chemist went about reproducing the formulas in a small laboratory, named Carthusia.
In the late 40s painter Mario Laboccetta created Carthusia’s logo – a flower siren surrounded by native Capresi blooms, symbolising the brand’s indissoluble bond with Capri.
Today, Carthusia’s fragrances are still all handmade, observing centuries old practises, ensuring the highest level of quality in their fragrances. The spirit and history of Capri is embedded in every Carthusia product, and all ingredients are derived from Capri’s environment, paying homage to the beautiful island.
